Game-Changer announcement

As I was starting my studies, watching the first ISCW video and reading through the first chapter I found myself (as a good student) browsing the internet.
To my defense it was the Cisco web site which you can’t count as fun or not studying…

I found the following announcement on the Cisco Learning Network:

Thank you for your patience as we complete the work necessary to provide a high-quality updated curriculum and certification program.  Although we cannot release further details at this time, you are welcome to contact Certification Support for other certification and training related concerns.

To address questions about the future of CCNP certification, Cisco would like to alert students, instructors, customers, and partners to an upcoming announcement.  At the end of January 2010, Cisco will be formally announcing a revision to the popular Cisco Certified Networking Professional curriculum and certification.  It has been several years since the last revision, and changes are required to ensure the CCNP certification remains relevant to the role of enterprise networking professionals.  Even as revisions are made, Cisco is committed to giving students and professionals who have begun the CCNP certification process adequate time to adjust their study plans and complete their certification.  At the time of the announcement, the current CCNP curriculum and exams will not be immediately retired, consistent with past practice.  Details for how the new CCNP requirements will be phased in will be included in the January announcement.

Best regards,

Cisco Certifications Team

Reading through the forums, rumors and speculations suggest that ISCW and ONT will be removed from the new curriculum while BCMSN and BSCI will not change dramatically.

Should I “buy” the rumors and drop ISCW from  my plan, waiting for its replacement or maybe use the expected time frame (usually there is 6-12 month to complete the path after the announcement) and expedite my CCNP certifications pushing MCITP to the end of the line or maybe wait with my Cisco certifications and start with Windows 2008 where I should have easier work anyway. Big big decision…

The fact that I just started mean no time was wasted if I drop ISCW (one evening with all the introduction, IIN & SONA doesn’t count) but the fact that I know most of the exam topics very good both in theory and practice  combined with the expected time frame (and my own project time line) lead me to keep going as planned and change nothing.

Update: on Jan 25th Cisco released the official announcement. check all the details here.

      JasonS,

thanks for the details, it does comply with the rumors flying all over the place and for me personally, assuming the dates are final, the plan will change and I’ll have to finish my CCNP track before I can start looking at the MCITP part.
I’ll keep looking for the official announcement and post details once they come out.

      have a good weekend,
      Rofi Neron
